COVID-19 Vaccination
Do I need a COVID-19 booster?
Free NHS boosters now reach only limited groups — our private clinic is for everyone else who wants their protection topped up. The latest updated vaccines target current circulating variants:
| Traveller | Who should consider it | Doses & schedule |
|---|---|---|
| Advised Travellers | Long-haul trips, cruises and group tours — crowded transit and changed healthcare access make COVID disruption abroad expensive and unpleasant. Some destinations or carriers may still ask about vaccination status. | Single dose, at least 3 months after your last COVID-19 vaccine dose. |
| Advised Around vulnerable family | Visiting elderly relatives, new babies or immunocompromised family members — topping up cuts the chance of bringing infection with you. | Single dose — protection builds within about 2 weeks. |
| Consider Winter & big events | Ahead of winter, weddings and major events — anyone wanting to reduce the odds of being laid low. | Single dose per season is typical. |
| Not usually needed Recently boosted | If you’ve had a COVID-19 vaccination in the last 3 months, another dose isn’t yet due. | We’ll confirm timing from your vaccination history. |
Available from age 12 at our clinic. Vaccine prices are kept up to date on our travel clinic price list.
Why keep COVID-19 protection topped up?
COVID-19 hasn’t gone away — it circulates year-round with winter peaks, and the virus keeps evolving. Updated vaccines are refreshed to match current variants, which is why a booster beats relying on doses from years ago.
Immunity from vaccination or infection fades over months. For most healthy people a new infection means an unpleasant week, but the risks rise with age and health conditions — and even a “mild” case can wreck a holiday, an exam week or time with vulnerable family.
Private vaccination fills the gap the NHS programme has narrowed to: if you’re not in an eligible NHS group but want up-to-date protection — especially before travel — a private booster is the straightforward answer.
How the COVID-19 booster works
A single injection of the latest updated mRNA vaccine, matched to currently circulating variants:
| Who | Who should consider it | Doses & schedule |
|---|---|---|
| Adults & young people 12+ | Anyone wanting topped-up protection who isn’t eligible for a free NHS dose. | Single dose, at least 3 months after your most recent COVID-19 vaccine. |
| Travellers | Best timed at least 2 weeks before departure so protection has built. | Single dose — combines happily with travel vaccines in the same visit. |
| Never vaccinated | A first course can be arranged privately. | Discussed and scheduled at your consultation. |
Side effects are usually a sore arm, tiredness or mild flu-like symptoms for a day or two; serious reactions are rare. Bring your vaccination history if you have it — we’ll check the 3-month spacing.
