Why screen for chlamydia?
Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the UK, and its defining feature is silence: most people who have it notice nothing at all. Left untreated it can cause serious long-term problems, including pelvic inflammatory disease and fertility difficulties — which is why screening matters even when you feel completely fine.
Our service makes it as easy as possible. Pick up a free kit at the counter (we offer one whenever you buy condoms, oral contraception or emergency contraception), take the sample at home, and post it to the laboratory in the prepaid envelope provided. Our pharmacists show you exactly how the kit works and how you’ll get your result.
If your test comes back positive, treatment is provided free at the pharmacy under the locally agreed NHS scheme — quickly, confidentially and without judgement. We’re also linked to local sexual health and contraceptive services, so if you need anything beyond chlamydia screening, we can arrange rapid referral, along with practical advice on safe sex and contraception.

How the service works
Three simple steps — most of it happens at home.
| Stage | Details | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Free kit | Pick up a test kit at the counter — offered with contraception purchases or on request | Discreet packaging, prepaid return envelope included |
| 2 · Post your sample | Take the sample at home and post it to the laboratory | We explain exactly how before you leave |
| 3 · Result & treatment | A positive result is treated free at the pharmacy under the local NHS scheme | Partners should be tested too — we’ll advise on next steps |
The service is confidential and non-judgemental. Treatment is supplied following the locally agreed NHS patient group direction after a positive result.

Frequently asked questions
Is the service really confidential?
Completely. It’s user-friendly, non-judgemental and client-centred, run to the “You’re Welcome” quality standards — nothing is shared beyond the clinical service itself.
How does the test kit work?
You take a simple sample at home following the instructions we walk you through, then post it to the laboratory in the prepaid envelope. It takes minutes.
What happens if my test is positive?
You’ll be offered free treatment at the pharmacy under the locally agreed NHS scheme — no GP visit needed in most cases. We’ll also advise on telling recent partners so they can be tested.
I have no symptoms — should I still test?
Yes. Chlamydia usually causes no symptoms, which is exactly how it spreads and causes long-term harm. Screening is for people who feel fine.
What about other STIs?
This service covers chlamydia. For a fuller screen or any symptoms, we provide rapid signposting to local sexual health and contraceptive clinics — just ask.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. The kit, the laboratory test and any treatment are all free.
