Honest expectations: most warts respond well to freezing, but older, thicker warts can need several treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart. We’ll tell you straight at the free assessment.

Is cryotherapy right for my wart?

Warts are common viral growths caused by HPV. Most are harmless and many disappear on their own — but freezing helps when they’re painful, spreading or simply unwelcome.

Not sure it’s a wart? The consultation is free — you’ll get an honest answer either way.

How does freezing remove a wart?

Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and can appear anywhere on the skin — most often hands and feet, where verrucas (plantar warts) can make walking uncomfortable. While many warts eventually clear on their own, that can take years, and freezing is one of the most effective ways to speed things up.

We apply a precise jet of extreme cold to the wart for 10–30 seconds using a CryoPen. It stings briefly — like frostbite or an ice cube pressed to the skin — and can feel warm as the area thaws. A blister then forms (sometimes clear, sometimes blood-filled); it dries up and falls off over the following days, usually taking the wart with it.

The treated skin can look lighter at first and takes a little time to blend in. Well-established warts sometimes need several treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart — we’ll give you a realistic view at your assessment rather than over-promise. Please note we don’t treat genital warts: those need a sexual health clinic.

Frequently asked questions

Does freezing a wart hurt?

It stings for the few seconds of application — people compare it to frostbite or an ice cube stuck to the skin — and may feel hot as it thaws. Discomfort is short-lived and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.

How many treatments will I need?

Small, recent warts often clear after one treatment. Older, thicker warts and verrucas may need several applications spaced 4–6 weeks apart. We’ll give you an honest estimate at the free assessment.

What happens after the treatment?

A blister forms at the site — clear or blood-filled, both are normal. It dries up and falls off over the following days, usually taking the wart with it. The skin may look lighter at first and blends in over time.

Can you treat verrucas?

Yes — verrucas are simply warts on the soles of the feet, and cryotherapy works well on them. Because the skin there is thicker, verrucas are among the lesions most likely to need a repeat application.

Do you treat genital warts?

No — cryotherapy at the pharmacy is for skin warts only. Genital warts should be seen at a sexual health (GUM) clinic, where the right treatments are free.

How much does it cost?

£69.99 covers the consultation, treatment of one wart and a four-week check-up. Additional warts treated in the same visit are £29.99 each, and a follow-up application within 6 weeks is £29.99 if needed. The consultation alone is free.
