Mounjaro is very effective when it comes to losing weight. But it works much better if you start a healthy eating habit. Mounjaro works by suppressing your appetite so that you eat less but still feel full.
The problems start when you reach your target weight, and you want to stop having the injections. Research has shown that it is very easy to put the weight back on.
If you don’t change your eating habits while on Mounjaro, it’s likely that you will still crave the unhealthy foods you were eating before, and this will lead to weight gain.
However, if you start to eat differently and add in some exercise, you will stand a much better chance of keeping the weight off.
What is Healthy Eating on Monjaro?
You should continue to eat foods from each food group. But focus on protein, healthy fats, vegetables, fruit and high-fibre carbohydrates. If you have a sweet tooth, it can be very difficult to cut out sugary desserts and chocolate, but if you learn how to make alternatives, your craving for sweet foods should diminish over time.
The NHS Better Health Page has lots of information about healthy swaps. For example, instead of a few biscuits, eat a fruit teacake. The difference between them is that a biscuit will typically have a higher fat content and added refined sugar. A fruit teacake will contain less fat, and although they still have sugar, it is natural sugar from the dried fruit, and so it is a healthier choice.
What’s a Good Example of Protein?
Good examples are:
- Eggs
- Greek Yoghurt
- Lean, grilled meat or chicken breast without the skin
- Fish liked baked cod, grilled salmon or mackerel or tinned tuna
- Seafood, including cooked prawns and mussels or canned crab in brine
- Almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts
- Beans
- Lentils and chickpeas
What are Healthy Fats?
Healthy fats to use for cooking are:

- Sunflower
- Olive oil

Healthy fats in food include:
- Oily fish, which is a good source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids
- A healthy swap is half a mashed avocado on toast instead of butter or margarine.

What are High-Fibre Carbohydrates?
High-fibre carbohydrates include
- Porridge
- Wholegrain bread
- Lentils

- Wholegrain pasta
- Quinoa
- Brown rice
If you are looking for an alternative to sweet desserts, then choose naturally sweet high-fibre fruits such as:
- Bananas
- Berries

- Figs
- Pears
- Apples
Add one of these fruits to natural yoghurt and sprinkle with blueberries and chia or sesame seeds.
