There are four types of skin and hair products you should be using to keep your body clean and healthy. Read our latest blog to find out what types of products you can buy at the pharmacy to help you look after your skin and hair.

Personal care products not only help your skin and hair feel clean and comfortable, but some products also look after your body and keep you healthy.

The four main types of personal care products most commonly used are for:

  • Skin care
  • Hair care
  • Oral care
  • Sun Cream

Looking After Your Skin

By looking after your skin you will reduce the risk of dryness, fine lines and skin discolouration. A typical routine should include:

Facial Cleanser

Micellar cleansing water is designed to cleanse your skin without you having to rinse off the product. Here at the pharmacy we stock Anovia micellar water which is ideal for sensitive skin as it doesn`t contain alcohol or fragrance.

Using a facial cleanser removes any left-over make-up, oils and dirt. Clean skin reduces the risk of clogged pores and breakouts of spots and acne.

Facial Moisturiser

Nivea soft moisturising cream can be used to hydrate your face, hands and body. The main ingredients are jojoba oil and vitamin E. Jojoba oil hydrates and soothes skin while vitamin E protects your skin because of its antioxidant properties. The best times to moisturise your skin are in the morning and at night before bed. Men can try L’Oreal Men Expert All In One Post Shave Moisturising Cream to soothe and hydrate skin that`s irritated by shaving.

Body Mousse

Treating your body to a moisturising mousse will hydrate, protect and soothe the skin all over your body. A good time to apply mousse is after a bath or shower. Nivea`s Wild Raspberry and White Tea Indulgent Body Mousse is available at the pharmacy and this is a mousse you can use every day.

Foot Cream

Using a foot cream will prevent infections, cracking and dryness. If your feet are without callouses and hard skin it will be more comfortable for you to walk. Some creams also help to control bad odours from excessive sweating. A good combination of body cream and a foot cream is Vaseline`s Cocoa Radiant which contains shea butter.

Haircare Products

Shampoos and conditioners are available for every type of hair at the pharmacy. If you have a particular condition then talk to us about shampoos that treat seborrheic dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis. These conditions can leave you with a red, itchy scalp that needs to be treated with a mild, gentle shampoo. Here at the chemist we stock Bioderma Node Non Detergent Shampoo and Bioderma Node Seborrheic Dermatitis Shampoo.

Oral Care

Keeping your teeth clean prevents gum disease, cavities and bad breath. Regular brushing twice a day and flossing on a regular basis is recommended to dislodge hard-to-remove food from between your teeth. The NHS recommend you brush your teeth for 2 minutes before you go to bed and on one other occasion during the day. You can choose from a selection of toothpastes and floss at the pharmacy. If you like to keep a breath freshener in your pocket to use during the day we also stock Ricola Herbal Mints. They are sugar-free with a minty flavour and will also soothe sore throats.

Sun Cream

It is very important to use sunscreen even on cloudy days. Sunscreen not only protects your skin from the harmful rays that cause skin cancer, but it also reduces the risk of fine lines and skin discolouration.

You should apply sunscreen every time you leave home, even on cloudy days. We stock Bioderma Photoderm Melasma Tinted Sun Protection Cream SP50.

The SP number tells you how much protection you are getting from the cream.

  • SPF15 is mild protection
  • SPF15-30 is moderate protection
  • SPF 30-50 or more is high protection

Children and babies should always be protected by a cream with an SPF rating of at least 50.
